Average running speed of a
human
![]() |
The average running speed of a human varies depending on
factors such as age, gender, fitness level, and terrain. However, according to
a study published in the Journal of Applied Physiology, the average running
speed of a human is approximately 8.3 miles per hour (or 13.34 kilometers per
hour) for a distance of one mile (or 1.6 kilometers).
Of course, this is just an average, and many people can run
faster or slower than this depending on their individual characteristics and
training. For example, elite runners can run at speeds of over 20 miles per
hour (or 32 kilometers per hour), while beginners may run at a much slower
pace.
